Best AI app to learn Swedish in 2026: conversation, corrections and pronunciation

Short answer

Our pick is SFI Prov. You speak Swedish with AI characters in everyday situations, such as at the health centre or in a job interview, and get corrections during the conversation and a summary afterwards. The app also gives AI feedback on your texts and analyses your pronunciation word by word. It is free. We make the app ourselves.

AI has become one of the best ways to practise Swedish on your own. You can talk to an AI whenever you want, have your text corrected in seconds and see which words you pronounce wrongly, without anyone watching. But AI can also be wrong, and many AI apps do not have Swedish. Here we compare the apps and show how to use AI wisely. We make one of the apps ourselves, SFI Prov, so we say that up front.

Our pick is SFI Prov: its AI is built for SFI, with conversations in situations you meet in Sweden, corrections of your texts and analysis of your pronunciation, and the app is free. If you want to compare the whole apps and not just the AI, read our comparison of apps to learn Swedish.

The apps

SFI Prov (our app and our pick)

SFI Prov is made by SverigeFokus, which also publishes this blog. The app takes you from zero to the SFI test, and AI is in three parts of it.

Talk with AI. In Free-talk you speak Swedish with AI characters in everyday situations: in a shop, with a neighbour, at the health centre, at the doctor’s, in a job interview or at a government office. The situations and the difficulty follow your course, and every character has its own voice.

Corrections of your texts. In the writing tasks the AI reads your text against the task and gives you a checklist of what the task requires, suggestions for improvement and corrected spelling. Your own answers to reading and listening questions can also be checked by the AI.

Pronunciation analysis. You read a sentence aloud, and the app shows word by word, in colour, which words you pronounced well and which need more practice.

What does it cost? Nothing. The app is free, with no ads and no subscription. The conversations and pronunciation analysis need a free account and an internet connection, and AI feedback on texts is limited to a number per day. Download: App Store and Google Play.

ChatGPT and Gemini

General AI chats such as ChatGPT and Gemini can reply in Swedish, correct texts and explain grammar. They are not built for SFI, so you have to tell them what you want to practise. Both also have voice modes, and you will have to try for yourself how well the voice works in Swedish.

Good for: open questions, explanations and extra practice with texts. Less good for: knowing what to practise. They follow no course, and they can be wrong with great confidence. Price: free versions with limits, and paid tiers.

Three instructions you can copy:

Memrise

Memrise has a Swedish course where you can practise speaking with an AI partner in private.

Good for: practising short conversations in a ready-made course. Less good for: the tasks of the SFI test, which the course does not train. Price: the course is free to start, with ads. Memrise Pro costs money, removes the ads and gives you access to everything.

Duolingo

Duolingo has a Swedish course, but the AI conversations in the paid Max tier, such as video calls and roleplay, are according to Duolingo’s help pages only available for some of the biggest languages. In October 2026 Swedish was not one of them.

Good for: a daily habit with short exercises. Price: the course is free with ads.

How do you practise Swedish with AI?

  1. Talk for five minutes in a situation you need, for example at the health centre.
  2. Read the corrections and write down the mistake you make most often.
  3. Say the corrected sentences aloud until they feel natural.
  4. Write a few sentences about the same thing and have them corrected.
  5. Check anything that sounds like a rule or a fact in another source.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI app to learn Swedish?

Our pick is SFI Prov. You speak Swedish with AI characters in everyday situations, such as at the health centre or in a job interview, and get corrections during the conversation and a summary afterwards. The app also gives AI feedback on your texts and analyses your pronunciation word by word. It is free. We make the app ourselves.

Can you learn Swedish with ChatGPT?

You can practise a lot with ChatGPT: ask it to speak simple Swedish with you, correct your texts and explain grammar. But it is not built for SFI, you have to tell it what to practise, and it can be wrong. Check rules and facts in another source.

Does Duolingo have AI for Swedish?

Duolingo's AI conversations, such as video calls and roleplay, are in the paid Max tier. According to Duolingo's help pages they are only available for some of the biggest languages, and Swedish was not one of them in October 2026.

Is there a free AI app to speak Swedish?

Yes. In SFI Prov the AI conversations are free, with a free account. ChatGPT and Gemini have free versions with limits, and Memrise has a Swedish course with an AI partner that is free to start.

Can AI correct my Swedish text?

Yes. In SFI Prov the AI reads your text against the task and gives you a checklist, suggestions for improvement and corrected spelling. It is practice, not the test's assessment, and AI can be wrong.

Is it safe to talk to an AI app?

Never type your personal identity number, your BankID details or anything else sensitive into an AI chat. In SFI Prov your phone's speech recognition turns your speech into text in the conversations, and for the pronunciation analysis the recording is sent encrypted within the EU and deleted immediately afterwards, only if you have said yes.
